Mathew Carter, Born October 1st, 1937 in London. Taking after his father, Harry Cater, designed type faces which are almost assential to everyday life. 'Classic' web fonts, such as Verdana and Georgia, are used all across the internet.

Other well known type faces made by Mathew Cater are Bell Centennial, Miller, and Tahoma.

When Microsoft found a need for a new type face, they approached Mathew Carter and a couple of other people to create a new typeface for Microsoft. The name Verdana came from 'verdant' (something green) and the name Ana, one of Virginia Howllet's daughters. Virginia Howllet was one of the typographers at Microsoft (of whom discuvered the need of a new type face)

Designed in 1993 by Mathew Carter and Tom Rickner, also for Microsoft. When this serif font was made, i was made in a way that it was workable on low resloloution screens, specifically for Microsoft. Georgia was inspired a style of type faces comonly used in the 19th century, called Scotch Roman.

The name was inspired by a headline in a newsapaper during them times, claiming ''Alien heads found in Georgia''.
