Once I had this template, I then placed this onto the big roles of fabric I wanted to use, pinned the paper onto these so it wouldn't move as I was cutting, and then cut the fabric around the template.
I had to make sure that this fabic was folded over before I cut, which meant I had couple the size of what I wanted my bag to be like, so I could then fold the fabic to sew up the bag, at it'd original size.

In this textiles session, we explored the idea of using textiles and fabrics in our tea bag packaging.
This can be used in our packaging, the tea bag it's self, or what EVER comes to our mind!
I think it'll be an interesting thing to use, as it'll bring multi media into my packaging.
To get a rough idea of how to use all the equipment, we all made a small draw string bag. I did this by:
Cutting out a template of roughly the size I'd want, and then cut the paper out.

I then went over to the overlock machine to stich up the edges of the fabic. This stiching method meant that the bag / fabric wouldn't frey.
This technique is used on the inside of most cltohes these days, it's an assential to clothing, to obtain quality.

It is important to iron and press the fabric, each time I stiched the fabric, this would keep it in place, and also made it look more of a finished product

To include the elastic string, I then folded the fabric over slightly - so there'd be a place of the elastic to stay.
Once I had the width, I sewed it up with the demestic sewing machine. This machine was just an ordinary, single stich.
To place to elastic in, once I stiched a place of it to go, I pinned a safety pin on the end I'd push in. This made it a lot easier to push through, although it was still very fidgety at some points.

Once I had the elastic through, I then turned it in back to front, and ironed it.
As a finished product, I think it's really good, especailly since I hadn't done it in a while.
I thought about how I could include some textiles in my final product for tea packaging.

On the following week, I extended my thought process, and started looking at shapes of tea bags and packaging ideas linked to textiles.
I had an idea in this session, which was to link the letters t, e, and a with different flavours of tea or maybe different countries. I really liked this idea, as I could shape the packaging and the tea bag shapes around these letters, and have a play on the words
As development work, I start to sketch out the letters of the tea bags I was thinking on, so I had an idea what they could look like, if I went on with this idea.
I used the same process and techniques as last week's session.
